November 17, 2006
The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) is pleased to announce that David Guscott is joining its management team as executive vice president, corporate strategy & government relations.
Guscott will be responsible for fostering VANOC’s relationships with these important partners. He will play a key role in delivering a Games experience that is shared by all Canadians, and will provide enhanced perspective on the corporate strategy and decision-making that is fundamental to a successful Games. This position was created in spring 2006 as part of the evolution of VANOC’s organizational structure. Guscott joins the other six members of the executive team in reporting to VANOC Chief Executive Officer John Furlong.
Guscott brings with him extensive experience with the Province of Ontario, including over nine years in senior leadership positions with key government enterprises. This includes serving as deputy minister of Labour and deputy minister of Transportation, as well as his current role as deputy minister of communications and special projects and associate secretary of cabinet with the Cabinet Office.
“David adds significant bench strength to our team,” said Furlong. “His depth of expertise is wide-ranging, and includes strategic planning and management, fiscal management and government relations. He’ll be a valuable addition as we work to nurture the strong relationships we have established with our partners – relationships that are vital to the success of any Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
Guscott commented today that he is looking forward to joining the Vancouver 2010 family and contributing his expertise through this role with VANOC. “I’m pleased to take on the challenge of this exciting new position. Like every Canadian, I’m inspired by our Olympic and Paralympic athletes and their pursuit of excellence. I’m looking forward to making a real contribution to the team in delivering Canada’s Games.”
Guscott joins the VANOC team, in Vancouver, on December 15th.
VANOC is responsible for the planning, organizing, financing and staging of the XXI Olympic Winter Games and the X Paralympic Winter Games in 2010.
